Process of chair making

Using dowel for joinery. The front legs and front bar are joined with  4 dowels and 2 dowels on each with 10 mm in diameter. The front bar is connected with side bars also with dowels. These side bars connected with the back legs with dowel again. the back legs are connected with the back bar with dowels again. The front bar and back bar are connected with middle bar. Overall, it give the stable of the chair.Paint the chair with water base colour.Top of the front legs has hole and that connected with the arm rest with dowel. This arm rests are connected with the back rest and they are connect with the 2 dowels on each. the back rest and the seat is connected with 5 dowels. this seat is connected with the frame of the chair with the 6 dowels, 2 dowels wth front bar, 4 dowels with side bar. In this way, it create strong stable chair.

Developement of Concept

Requirement for new chairs

1. Dinning chair

2. Simple form

3. Left the origin of the chair

4. Honest to the structure of the chair, Taking the aesthetic on the structure like Japanese traditional house.

5. Focus on function

6. reverse the original piece like back legs become front.

7. ergonomic but not very comfortable and uncomfortable as aesthetic.

The idea from last week which is using the element of the original chair and create the new chair which is completely different experience with the original chair. Swaping the back legs to front and front to back. This chair is target to be used as cafe, resturant chair. Uncomfortable as an aesthetic to create the chair special like Moriyama House in Japan which is toilet outside of the building. All parts of the chair has dual function such as arm rest is not only for arm rest but also for the sturcture of the chair.
